INTRODUCTION Greetings, Thought Bombs lovers! well, maybe you don’t “love” this zine, but it is free and after the 15t half I let up and let others have a say so. Actually, I’ve become more of an editor, as so much good material has come my way that I feel needs to be presented in zine form. Mostly, conscious prisoners create what I consider the most important work, but some of you in_the “outs” do excellent work, too - most particularly, Tom Big warrior. I’m nearing the approach to the end of mK seemingly ’I1fe’|un? wage-slave sentence. By the end of october, T will qualify for’a modest pension, after having been a toll booth operator for 32 ears - 4 times the length of grade school! "It’s )een miserable, but especially so_these last three years, as I’ve had my workplace closed & forced to relocate to a busy nightmare of a place. This has been exacerbated these last several months, as the road (1-80 west) has been torn up and traffic has been funneled through a brutal bottleneck where we vork. So, the work is extremely stressful, unheaTthy and so forth. _Every day is draifing, physically and psychologically, so I haven’t béen go\ng ‘the real work I would like to have been oing. But, I try like hell every day, anyway. Luckily, T’ve finally found a true comrade to collaborate with, after searching for years. Mike is down and he has some contributions in this zine. Thanks, Brother! I needed that! Good thing too, because the volume of work Continues to rise as more and more people - especially prisoners - realize the importance and usefulness of this work. I also have wonderful comrades around the country doing serious anarchist solidarity work in the true spirit of mutual aid, Voluntary cooperation and direct action humanismi Right on, Brothers & sisters, wherever you are seriously active! on February 14%, my wife, Leslie & I celebrated our Zuth wedding anniversary! Yeah! ~ Anthony Rayson ~ +++ Stephen Rayson (age 11~ my son) drew the front cover!!!

Baby Boom Betrayal y The "Baby Boom™ generation is defined as those people born between 1946 and 1961. Like Van Morrison said, the troops who survived WWII, came home "with Tove looks in their eyes." Boy, he wasn’t kidding because the women they married becane veritable baby-making machines! ~ "I was smack dab_in the middle of a seven sibling Tomly, ayself, wy sister, m, was born in 1946 and the last of my brothers, Jim, was born in 1961. I was born on my sister’s 7th birthday, September 17", 1953. She had the dubious distinction of having six younger brothers and 7o sisters! So, I had a catbird seat for this whole "Baby Boomer” phenomenon. I got to see what was going on with my older brothers and sister as well as how things played out with my ‘uu er brothers and all their friends. uflstl¥. 1 lived with my own peer grove, in the heart of this generation, generally anging out with people no more than 2 years older or ymmqet} than myself. one of the first things T remember was a silly 78 rpm record my parents played constantly about Jack Kennedy running for president in 1960. Tt went. soneching Tike this: "oops! There goes another Kennedy! Oops! There goes angther . Something.. So, vote for Kennedy, vote for_Kennedy. 1 remember my sister listening to a 78 that sang, "Johnny has an apple on a stick, an apple on 2 stick." My oldest brother is named John. TV was a new phenomenon. There were only 3 or 4 black and white channels, Sometimes only two or one. When the programming’ended, an Indian head appeared with a miserable endless note. It seemed often that a test” would be conducted by the “emergency broadcast system.” This, of course, was a_faint reminder that we were undef the insané, albeit constant, threat of possible nuclear genocide, engulfing whole Continents and hemispheresl This could be Yriggered by hubris and bombast or some arrogant politician, the megalomania of some general or Simply by Some "mistake.” NucClear weapons were being constructed at a dizzying pace and several were ~Tost,” "And it just keeps getting worsel sut what did we know? we got up early, watched the Indian for while and waited for the cartoons to cone on - Bugs Bunny, wickey Mouse, ooy Woodpecker and so forth: e may have had to wait for "Five Minutes to Live By" - a dreary Christian message, set to dull music.
. It seemed like every family had at least four kids - even if they had to adopt a korean kid or two (seeing as they were orphans because the U.S. military murdered So many of their parents.) S T grew up in ‘l"in]g Park, a_long-time Sleepy, white south suburb of Chicago. It was founded by the “Tinley Brothers” railroad men fram the 1850’s or something. There was no big expressway to the city yet (1-57.) It was surrounded by cornfields and was an entity unto itself, no Wal-Mart yet or any of that crap. It wasn’t all just cars. e walked and rode our bikes a lot. We had good~sized yards_in my neighborhood and could play ootball, baseball, softball, wiffle ball, tennis, hide-andgo-seek, Cowboys and Indians or “Army" or “war." we looked all around for all kinds of creatures and kept many pets. If we wanted to play Teague (hard ball) we went to the church grounds a couple houses over. we’d swing on trees and build forts and fool around all kinds of ways, usually outdoors - big snowball fights, tomato Fights, etc. we liked to throw stuff at each other. we played board games, too, Tike Monopoly or cards. some of the Monopoly games lasted for days and were pla in the front yards of houses. We’d play pinochie forever and create whole leagues of international baseball teams and have them play seasons with cards and dice. We’d stats, just like in the sports section. But we also sat in front of the boob tube as much as we could get away with. We’d watch the Honeymooner ’s and Sky King, hoping to be too slow to have to go to church. The girls liked to play "house" and "school” and would pretend to be Moms or teachers and we’d go along with it - at least I did! we’d do this in their parent’s basements. I at:tua“¥ got on well with girls, until puberty hit and I freaked out. we’d go over to the neighbor’s house to watch garbage like 8onanza in the man’s den. I hated the show, but it was in color, so we watched it. I remember the first’time I saw color T.v. It felt Tike thase Japanese parents who recently got. Zapped by Pokemon, | It was ‘Rocky and Wis Friends - Rocky & Bullwinkle. we all sat reverently around the set at our minister’s house, next door to the Methodist Church. They had three sons, three of our and we iiked to ditch church and have fun together. Another early on color T.V. show was a 3 se action cartoon we watched at a close neighbor’s house, with the two adopted Korean kids. ma,}":\u‘m ons of their own. " 7 0 " e played with squirt guns, water balloons an 5.5, Gund and toy Guns with caps and chincy
projectiles. We got a lot of cheap stuff - "made in Japan.” In those days, “made in Japan" meant 6 shoddy stuff. Of course, they were still Tecovering after we unieashed nuciear war on them, slaughtered tons of them otherwise and were helped as genocidal accomplices, by the insane government of Japan, who also made Sure many people were butchered throughout Asia and sacrificed many of their own people doing it. Economic imperialism is a tsunami of blood! c:’ginhjst "competition” called "freedom.” cCosmic crime unpunished! Anyway, I remember the little T.v. in the Classroom when the astronauts Tike Gus Grissom, John Glenn and Alan Sheppard shot into the stratosphere, trying to recoup the propaganda the Russians got for being First. After Sputnik, it came to us as a flying saucer sl candy with tiny candy beads inside. I t it was cool the way they put a monkey in space and then a woman! Kids would have transistor radios glued to their ears listening to the world Series, which was still played in the afternoon, until corporate dollars totally took over. Penny candy was huge deal to us and was what we spent our allowance on. There was a place near our grade school called Rudy’s. It was run by two ‘twins - one was_real mice and the other guy was always crabby, impatiently trying to hurry us up with our petty selections. McDonald’s was just starting out as a restayrant far away in the western suburbs. We had “Dairy Palace” and they had $.15 hamburgers, tool I_remember Kennedy, always smiling and Jackie with a1l her (rel\dmflht:{:nfl how everyone was so worried about something (3 Bobby were toying vdfgh I’Jtetggl of u:}dmshfn imr’l&’}fle_nuc}elr war after getting spanked at the Bay of Pigs.. _And there were mainst “rock” songs by Leslie Gore and the like. My brother got excited when new Beach Boys songs came out, hu¥°1 thought it vflsrgnda si1ly what they were saying about cars and surfing and girls. But, things didn’t really start to h: until Kennedy got his brains blown into his wife’s lap, down in pallas on November 22, 1963. That was like a hit of social windowpane! Everyone was beside themselves with grief and that picture_of John-John saluting his dead dad’s casket was eloquently etched in our minds. They had a crisp flag-draped casket cer as patriotism has aTways been pre-cminently hammered into Americans at every turn. John-lohn would grow into a tabloid hunk and manage to pre-maturely end his own life, too, along with his wife and sister-
in-law. He thought he could fly blind one mighe. we had the red for president, 7 now! Wwhat would happen next?. tuckily, the Beatles exploded and set us all on a Tife-Tong thrill ride. They pushed all the crappy white U.S. bands aside and took off Tike a cultural bottle rocket. Every week it seemed a new awesome Beatles single would shoot straight to the top of the charts. The girls went berserk and the guys wanted in, so_they Beatle wigs and tried to mimic their hipness, with limited success. As they developed and ditched their suits and grew more hair, good U.S. bands burst on the scene. The Grateful Jefferson Airplane, Frank Zappa and’ the Mothers of Invention, etc. put out music for the counterculture. People hit the streets, too! Lots of papers were hawked and it seemed 1ike we were on the verge of something important all the time. Revolutigns were occurring around the world, Tike’a string of firecrackers. The Black music_ - where all non-native culture sprang from - was still well-hidden, just like the Black people themselves. You’d hear Some R & B out of Detroit or Nat ’King Cole or Satchmo or something, but the "Boomers” followed_the white bands. Some were integrated though, like the excelient Butterfield Blues Band from good old chi . England pumped out a lot of good bands t00, Tike the Stomes, Animals, Cream, etc. So, we had’a plethora of new and occasionally innovative bands to serve as the soundtrack of our lives coming up. But the rebelliousness of the music didn’t translate into actual action. Later, guys Tike Bob Marley and the Clash put meat on the 1yrics and sang about politics in a real way. Dylan wrote songs with strong stuff, but he mumbled 50, you couldn’t Figure out what he’was sayin’l The Blacks rebelled and I mean repelled/ whole cities were war_zones for several days - watts ’65, Detroit ’67, Newark, Chicago - all over! There’d be speculation’’whether or not it would be a chot sumer. . OF course most all the death was caus racist ce n ing black men - just 11%({ They do’ today in?{&ww autside their vast gulag empire. Mayor Daley gave go ahea ni’ Mg pigs: "shoot to maim looters, shoot to kill rioters.™ How do you define a "rioter?” You do it the same way you define a “terrorist" or an “anarchist™ - anything bad you can think of - that’s itl only for a_brief time in the late ’60’s, did people actually start to realize the government was lying to them and that they were @heir mortal enemy. In
the mid-late ’70’s, over half of the prisoners were vietnam vets. wWelcome home! Many others were homeless or shell-shocked in some dive. ~vet, @ later, the spin was, the anti-war peopie (who staffid military-based coffee shops, etc.) were the bad quys and did the vets wrong. “only b efly did people open their eyes - and frag their officersl There were actual unions who sometimes went on meaningful strikes, always sold-out by their Teadership. Boycotts sometimes were effective and reporters got to occasionally actually report on events, or at least provide a glimpse. We’d see Stacks’of “Vietcong" bodies and other horrible cal caused by the U.S. Nowadays, the reporters are ({mbedded) 1ike bedbugs, and are intellectually and visually muzzled. It’s all about the government’s line "posing” as the truth. There was a sort of "underground radio” on FM stations, Sometimes. Now this is called "pirate Radio gone after Tike mink liberators, as somehow Subversive.” The truth is our’biggest terrorist! ~"""and of course, there was the inescapable Vietnan war. Everyone knew of guys from their neighborhood who went. Either they got drafted or they enlisted. Sometimes they came dead, wounded or ruined (insane.) They brought drugs home, too - heroin, but most especially dynamite pot! I still think the government is so determined to keep pot criminalized, not just because it fuels their prison profiteering, but because of how potheads turned on and turned off to their hideous war. For, not believing government proj s unforgivable and pot disconnected people from it. Parents didn’t know anything about the explosion of drugs us high school kids cane across = mescaline, acid, mushrooms, hash oil - all kinds of sic, plis al]’the phamaceuticals and the crap you could steal from the shelves of drug stores. Jesus, what a mind blow! If our ts busted us smokin* pot with a bunch of our friends in the bedroom, we’d tell ‘em it was "Turkish tobacco” and find it later in their dresser, switch it with oregano and leave the seeds in. ‘The cops were Barney Fife types or macho dudes who didn’t have computers and weren’t too hip mentally and it ite a while for them to attract nerds who could use them and train cops to use thea and apply then in the sophvisticated dragnet fashion they use them for, nowadays. Often, there were so many of us, the cops were overwhelmed. They didn’t get the "back up” you see today, when 3, 4, 5 squads are there to ?1‘4& ‘some poor schmoe a’spéeding ticket. Also, a lot of the and
pro-government gung-ho, cop-loving types were verdess murdaring people in Vietnan and elsewhere. ~"So, we got away with a lot of juvemile dehn?nficy stuff. when we _broke windows at the school, we may have gotten "in trouble" but we 9 didn’t end up in prison! when we got caught drinking and driving, yeah we spent the night in the drunk tank and a court date, but that was usually it. often, if a pig found our weed or whatever, he would just take it for himself and say something snotty to us and shoo us away, There was even such a thin a "warning ticket” that wasn’t just given to a few pretty girls. when pecple started cing up, whether it was “tuning in, turning on and dropping out™ or realizing this was a virulently racist and sexist capitalist country, or were mortified by the endless bloods! of vietnam, it was still a “minority" of people who actially did any real organizing or demonstrating. For black folks who fought, it was a different matter. The cops actually sent out assassination Squads ‘after_some of them and many were sucked intc the black hole of prison. Their comunities remained destitute and targeted and daily strife was, is and always has been excruciating, compared to Suburban white folk’s lives. There are two separate sets of realities. For le, when the National Guard killed those (white) kids’at Kent State, everyone was aghast. when pigs sprayed the dorm with gunfire down at Ja £ oAs State, killing two (black) students, it was hardly noticedl The Voting Rights Act was a_big nothing! Back to me, I always hated school. T was sickened by the’stupid racists and giri beaters an nasty bastards who picked on Jews, als or anybody for anything. The teachers were horrible, o0l It was so stifiing and boring all the timel I remember in 8™ grade, it was 1966. I’d been to the Martin Luther King, Jr. march through Cicero during the susmer. There I picked up the racist comic book, White Man. our English teacher who was also the French teacher told us to write a article about somebody famous. I did mine on Martin Luther King. She flunked me because he was a "communist nigger!” such a lovely “educator!" Another time I did a long paper on uncle Tom’. cabjn. I got a "C" because the teacher said I stole it from my brother, who she claimed did same thing two years ago. His was on Huckleberry Finn, but she didn’t undérstand the difference. I guess it sounds Etty of me, but that was their mindset - keep things on a simple plane and more ing, do t you’re told without being a bother. Inteiligence is a nuisance we don’t want! In 7% grade, we had this volatile science teacher, naned NF. Martinez, one day a softball came crashing through the ciass, through a second floor window. Jerry Schmidt had really connected on_that homer| “The next day, I saw Martinez assault Jerry on the foul part of the field. His crime? He was eating Oke Doke cheese popcorn! Another time he threw a kid from the top of the bleachers to the wooden floor on the gym floor, during intranurals - about 7 rows. This kid’s crime was eating Junior Mints. Most people who went to college, slowly conformed and fell into some kind of "career” mold, pretty much abandoni real alternatives to this insane society. Kids didn’t go to school, stayed around town, got wage- slave jobs and sort of subsisted sical 1 and spiritually. They’d have grubby kids. A lot of people became alcoholics, junkies and so forth. Some went to prison or died, but_ few made a real commitment to either a counterculture lifestyle or challenging any system. Maybe they didn’t go to church as much as their Moms, but usually “came around” after a while. wWhy believe such nonsense? For a while, there was a feeling of our generation, when we were in our teens mostly, and fwenties to a lesser degree. We’d go to festivals where there were 200,000 people, listening to bands for a couple days. Those seemed important in a way. There were dlways problems wich cops - busts and beatings of certain people, and there was a Sort of comraderie in court, where everybody seemed Yo know each other and have.some charge to try and beat. But, as an evolving "generation” it wasn’t haopm‘h%. le just did what a company wanted them to do, may ile drinking or getting high on the side - that was the big "protest.” After Vietnam gu‘ieud down (end of the draft in ’73) people didn’t care what was happening in Mozambique or Iran or Guatemala or am re else, really. They didn’t even care about what was happening in their own community. They just wanted
to be lett alone, go out to a stupid disco or other bar and get wasted. Others became more and more conservative, as their parents were, and were |3 wolded into the miserable "Moral Majority" rightwing evangelical christian flocks of today, who are driving this "born again” crusade against blacks and Arabs, women and others who don’t conform_to white society. 1In this respect, our “umique® generation has digressed from what our parents_orchestrated what we did. we’re even more Controlling and driven by slavish belief in lies! Kids are much less free than we were back in the restrictive day of the 50’s & 60’s. They’re watched and punished for any perceived infraction, are reginented i school, drowned in endless commercialisn and 1ied to about politics even more than we were lied to. What we claimed to_scorn in our youth (patriotism, high school football teams, imperialist war, old-fashioned ideas about sex, etc.) are pretty much shoved down kid’s throats today - shoved down by Baby Boomers who are now in positions of “authority.” Wilguetoast psychology, ala oprah Winfrey, is the answer to why Johnnie and Janie are so suicidal and angry, etc. What Farcical bullshit! Our big "hero” is the limo- wristed lackey of Jesse Jackson, Jr. - Barack Obama! The details of things are nauseating! Theyve Tearmed notring from when they were young and being victimized for it. They fancy electronics to hear and see their prefetred garbage, watch stupid movies and don.t know 2 damn thingl ’They’ve amassed huge piles of wealth, but don’t share it with those who really need it, and 5o on. Don’t Believe Liars and Murderers 1§ Its now over five hundreds years sinco Columbus came and launched tho systamic gonocids and elavery that has defined both North and South America, since. Adding the macabre, it’s paraded as the most wonderful goverameatal ayatem ever devised by man (or, rich, “white” men, I should say) The subjugation, both mentally and phyeically (spiritually, paychically — you name it) is profound on those born here and to a large extent, by those ‘who come here, in a state of awe (after having their own countries destroyed.) ‘Then again, many people who’ve lived here (and slaved) for generations and ‘conturios know tha trus istory of this blood-thirety nation. 1t separates fact from evil liea. ‘Humanity is like a big fumily. But some drug-addied bullios are stealing food (and everything elso) from frail old poople and little kids, who suffer so horsibly away from the gutless media. These punks are U.S. big shots in industry and politics. ‘They aro the tru criminals of the family. Thair crimes affoctall our livea in every country. Many suffer, die or languish in prison or in alave couditions throughout the world becase of their dictates. Their ‘are paradsd in front of people in robss, but that doeen’t ezase criminal intent, B0 matter how expensive the parchmont used for their sacred slaver’s document of docaments — the U.S. Canstitution. Dred Scot — tough luck! “Skull & Banse” is literally what they intend to do (and have done) to any and all peopls who cross their plundering agenda. For, they have the most seductive (and evil) “drug” of all - naked, aboolute power. They are in a ‘position to got anything they want, either personally or to cater to their ‘basest instincts — exercising their power over other people. This can mean deciding to firo or “layoff” poopl at the factory, speed things up, gut wages and benefita, cut back on food to priscaers and any type of “sanctions” you ‘can think of. O, it can be politically generated, like these hidoous wars being fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. Even Haiti is under U.S. - directed tyranny, by got this — U.N. “Peacckeeping” forces! Maro and moro, the high echools are resembling prison assembly lines. In 2 achool nearby, they make kids bring their parents — to a basketball game! You can justal, by the warden like demeanor and bebavior of the “black” prisonipal, tothe looks an these kids’ faces — many of them aro boing tracked for prison! ‘Their crime? Same as it was for the “froed” ex-slave Americans (vagranta) a fow gonerations ago - since they are not wanted (or needed) for their regular for-prafit slave operations, the ouly way they can bo profited from, i by atuffing them i prisoa! Like Noel Ignatiov said: “Whiteness dooan’t rolieve them of appression. it reconciles them toit.” Tell me! How can people live like that??? It’s quite simple. Like Rashid explain, viokenc (terror) or its threat. ix ‘used to control people. People don’t want to make waves and have the police all over them. Look at what the poople in South America are undergoing! Bold, now 2 politics are overcoming evil, U.S. - dictated death squad, IMF, militarized governmonts, in country after country. What is the U.S. governmant going to do? Train killers, assaseinate people, make econamies “screem” arm and truin “contras” and embargo all of theeo countrios at once, while claiming that “communiata” or “terroriats” or “narco-tarratists” aro menacing these vecy people who are clamoring for progresaive and radical change? Americans are gotting fod up with having their sonw and daughters dio or come bomo legless from Iraq, soeing that the Justification’” for this horrible thrust of Empiro bas been shown to be fabricated with lie ater lio ater Ho. “Suppart our troope” should not mean support fir the evil government who has deceived them with promises of education, caly to thrust them in borrible and dangerous situations for an imperial agenda. The German citizens supported their troops t00, in WWIL, but that dosen’t mean what those troope were foroed to do was in any way, suppartabls! For, by supporting the overnment choss game of using troops to gain their evil objoctivos, these troops suffer epormously (and unneceasarily) Wo’re actaally halping theso woops suffer mare by allowing the government to tell us what to do and how o chink. The Business of Government is the Macro Management of Crime 22 Ever get disgusted by the endless parade of corrupt, greedy and perverted politicians, who make the news and go through the wrist-slap line of “justice” How about the offal, fat swine still in power, formulating racist laws, voting themselves raises and gang-pressing our poor sons & daughters into fighting their Halliburton wars, they so gutlesaly avoided in their youth? Maybe you’re more nauseated by the ultra maral depravity of the top CEO’s, as their mega-billion dollar scandals erupt onto the surface and their companies go under, destroying tens of thousands of workers’ life savings, while they’ve stolen tens of millions for themeelvea! Yeah, its sickening alright! All the lying, stealing and murdering - of marality. 1 hate seeing multi-billionaires, like Oprah Winfrey or Bill Gatea got gushed over for their “philanthropy.” They “give” money or a book or a car away, with nice rich-people tax write-offe and we’re supposed to be 8o impressed by their largesse. Ugh! What fuckin’ monsters! Lot fete these absente sweatahop overlords! So, I thought it a good time to set a few basic, unquestioned assumptions on their lie-based heads. First, this country is not now, nor was it ever about “freedom” or “democracy.” The Constitution was written by the richest white men in the country (many of them "owned" huge plantationa run by slavea,) The land they claimed was stolen from other people alroady living there, who they tormented and murdered. ‘These disadvantaged people (Native Americans) were then made to anyway. It did not and indeed, could not “evolve" into something eloe! ‘The Constitution codified human slavery and the “rule of law.” ‘These laws were made to insure that the stolen land, stolen wealth and stolen lives, remained in the hands of those who stole them! Even white women were treated like dirt, as were white European men — if they were poor (indentured servants) or not English enough! ‘Those who couldn’t atand this tyranny parading as liberty, fled to Canada, went ever westward, joined the Maroons in the swamps, became Indians themselves, were imprisoned, enalaved or tried to find place of their own somewhere outside the reach of the “law” &/or the predatory business magnates, who ran the horrible plantations and factories. Where do we go now that the whole country’s locked down? Does any of this sound like “freedom” or “human rights” or “liberty”" Of course it doeen’t, because it’s the opposite — tyranny, exploitation and alavery - bo it wage, sexual, chattel, prison or contract. Rarely, ‘was there even a viable third party to challenge the two rubber-atamp partics. Eugene Debs ran a significant 3 party presidential campaign ~ from prison! Whenever workers got any significant organizing done, thew were gunned dnwn and their leaders ware framed wn and hune
Now, who in this whole wide world would want a system like that for their own country - if they weren’t forced to “nation-build” at the point of a gun? That’s right, nobody! Bocause, it’s a horrible aystom that degrades everything about a society — social relations, the equitable dintribution of gooda and services, the natural ecology, sexual relations, “race” relations and most insidiously, the ability of citizens to think cogently and guide their lives in a free, cooperative and existentially meaningful manner. To do so means to be in eternal revolt! 23 For, government ia the pinnacle of criminality. It is organized crime refined over decaden upon decadea of laws, wars, policing, massive yearly extortion (taxes) and meticulous catering to the wage-slave economic system of capitalism, known as “extréme capitalism” here in the U.S. Thia scamless, exponential level of all-encompassing criminality can only be dreamed of by the Mafia and all the two-bit gangsters, who can merely mimic the hubris and bombast of the suit and tie warlorda of politics and industry, with their small time dope deals and contract murders. Government manipulates whole industries of drugs (heroin, cocaine, etc.) They kill whole cities of people — sometimes at one crack! They bleed and make suffer whole countries, whole sub-continents — even whole continents — like Africa. Now that is what I call serious, world-class, macro criminality! The U.S. government even has a nuclear gun to the head of every man, woman and child on Earth and is even looking to load outer space up with the destructive energy they’ve commandeered — in case any creatures pop in from other parta of the universe, I suppoce. They have exclusive stockpiles of the moet dangerous and deadly materials known to man, such as plutonium, dioxin, anthrax, nerve gas, sarin, biological and chemical weapons, napalm, phosphorus fuel-air “daisy cutter” bomba, etc., etc. Like Madelaine Albright said about the blow job / Serb ‘War — “What good are weapona if you can’t use them?" Six thousand children die from atarvation every single day/ Hundreds of millions are on death’a door. Thoee that run the show are ‘millionaires and billionaires who thirst for more money, power and adulation. Wow! That’s cosmically serious crime, folka! The monster policy-makers know it’s insanely criminal, but they can’t stop themaelven. They’re drunk with their power and drip with blood lust. That’s why more and more state documents are classified as state secreta. They run secret prisons. They run an international gulag system. They tell reporters and editors what to say and print — even overseas! They harass people trying to tell the truth and label genuine freedom fighters “terrorists” and “anarchists.” They lie like hell! Orwell, Kafka and many others saw all of this coming. 1984 even had it pegged as far as the idiot box is concerned. These mesmerizing acreens are truly everywhere — from giant big ecreens, o itty-bitty tiny ones. You can hardly even go to a restaurant anymore without that
obnoxious junk droning on. People have them on while they are 2] driving, eating - even aleeping! People go to bars that have literally dozens of scroens flashing images. Mostly, it escapint drivel, like sporta or sex or pig shows. There are lots of lawyer, judge — even prison ‘shows, which are now insanely popular. 1t’s all contrived nonsense ‘meant to anaesthetize the brain or feed the mush-headed citizenry, gargantuan political lies. It’s the culture of simulated social life. 1t disconnects people from reality. Al the bundreds of thousands of with all the details of gruesome torture, make the real-life murder committed by government, inconsequential. Hunks, like Arnold Swartsenegger and Sylvester Stallone and Keifer Sutherland prepare the cultural bed for the mass murderers of government the Cheney’s and Rumafeld’s, Dick Cheney is John Wayne Gacy! See, its ok to murder people — even if you’re a rogue agent, as long a8 you doit for the government. But, it not ok if you’re a young black man. That’s the most terrible thing possible and leads off every news show. How, utterly insane! Yeah, it terrible when somebody geta raped and murdered, but it’s exponentially more terrible every single day of massive government murder coupled with paychological slavery. I¢s only the “losers” that pay fur their crimes. Had Hitler’s Germany won WWIL, they probably would have conducted solemn trialn with American, British and Russian generals and politicians in the dock for the mass murder in Dresden, Berlin and elsewhere. Both sides visited coloasal, otherworldly mass murder to civilians on an almost. daily basis, for many years. These are governmenta at work!l! WWII in fondly referred to as “The Good War!" What is s0 good about endless bloodshed and suffering? After the main killing was over, the U.S. didn’t akip a beat, making sure the Brits, France, etc. recovered their coloniea in Africa, Southeast Asia and elsewhere. They put the military clampdown back in South America, Greece, Korea — wherever! They even declared war at home, blacklisting people, nuking citizens and reising the ultimate dread of total nuclear annihilation to a very real possibility (MAD — mutually assured destruction.) Before killing 1,000,000 Koreana from 1960-1953, they murdered 100,000 from the end of WWII to 1950! They knew all about the Holocaust — while it was happening - and did nothing about it! They set up brutal dictators from Indonesia to the Philippines, to Iran to Chile. No level of depravity wes too horrible for the U.S. forces — Vietnam, Guatemals, El Salvador ~ you name it! Think of the clinical “supermax” hellholes! Yet, we’re aupposed to be aghast when a little kid brings a toe nail clipper to school! Theyll have us believe that the “Civil Rights Movement” in the sixties took away all the final vestiges of discrimination. After all, a few words were changed in a few law books!
Meanwhile, a huge percentage of young black men are living in the mot horrible, vile, dinease-riddled and dangerous paychological torture chambers ~ prison. Their communities are worse off than ever, with cameras everywhere instead of jobs, with police rounding people up, constantly. Despair and hopeleasness is trumpeted as “equality.” Making Martin Luther King, Jrs birthday a national holiday does nothing to create genuine community organizations and real empowerment for oppreased people. Black Histary Month, the 25 “celebration of Kwanzaa” and a handful of talented black athletes making millions doesn’t do a damned thing to stop the torrent of young black men and women into the gulags of Amerika. It’s all a big fraud! Religion - ah, to find a place of solace! What does it really do? Yes, some churches do serious prisoner support outreach. They’ll organize bussea for family membera and complain that phone calls are a rip-off or that conditions at such-and-such a dungeon are horrible, but it h no effect on government. They continue to parade folks in front of be- robed judges, who go through the formality of convicting poor people, as if on an assembly line! Or, enticed by promises of money for education, kuds get sucked into the military, only to find themselves being forced to do deapicable things to poor people in other (nowadaye, Arab) countries. Al our efforts to work and provide for our families, are hampered enormously because the government extorts a huge chunk of it in taxes. And what do they use this money for? s it to make sure that all of our children are properly clothed, fed, housed and truthfully educated? Hell, no! It to make the lives of people here and abroad infinitely mare miserable - either by occupying their country and bombing them, torturing them and so forth or incarcorating us, pushing us into the military and forcing us to be their cheerleadera for their criminal deeds. Government is very bad and all of society suffers terribly by the hideous process of continuously trying to ignore this monster in our midst, and indeed, being forced into catering to it. Stalinism w. probably the most clearly defined example of this type of society through government-caused fear. But, America takea the cake as far as sheer ignorance goes. When constant torture and murder are not even &iven a second thought, how in hell are you to expect a sane society to function??? Trying o appeal to their “humanity” ia the height of folly, because they have no humanity! Citizens must ditch government lies and wop allowing them to commit such terrible crimes. If we don’t rise up and put a stop to it, their crimes will overwhelm us, too along with our children and everything else we hold dear. It’a up to us to o or die. ~ Anthony Rayson ~ husband, father, working etiff, citizen, etc.
Censorship & Deprivation of Prisoners is a War on Citizens, TZo! 2 ‘Vemon Maulsby brings up some good points and an alarm bell should be ‘going offin everybody’s heads. He’s a lfer at SCI-Graterford, PA. There new policy denying sexually desperate inmates what they define as “ponography” is a strategy to censor words they don’t like and through a ‘bone to the warped religious right Personally, the issue about the magazines does no really concern me, but the way the directive s set to censor the writien word as well, is what has Jforced me into action to try to fight this serious menace. This DOC, once it ’has a foothold on censoring written content in books, will never stop, wntil every book possibly of serious value o the inmate, in the ongoing struggle to improve conditions here, has been winnowed out. The confiscation of adult reading material is a “borus” which wil be welcomed by the Religious Right both within and outside of this prison. By using vague, fascist-think language they add further restrictions on ‘prisoners. Here’s what this Bulletin reads: In order to assist with rehabilitation and treatment objectives, reduce sexual harassment and prevent a hostile work environment, inmates wil not be permitted to receive or possess pornography, as defined below. As of the effective date of this bulletin, inmates will no longer be permitted 1o obtaina new or renew an existing subscription 1o pornographic magazines or to DC-ADM 803, “Inmate Mail and Incoming Publications,” Section VLE.3b. Obscenity/Pornography (7) is being revised, and the following is being added: (7) where the material depicts bestiality, masturbation, sadomasochistic behavior, or bondage; New language is being added as Section VLF.3.c. “Pornography Issues.” b. Pornography Issues The following categories of material are considered “pornographic.” (1) materials which the purpose is sexual arousal or gratification; or (2) the material contains nudity which means showing the human male or female genitals, pubic area or buttocks with less than a fully opaque covering, or showing the female breast with
less than a fully opaque covering of any portion thereof below the top of the nipple (exposure through “see through” materials is ‘considered nudity for purposes of this definition. 27 OK. Let’s look at this mare closely. Without any kind of input from ‘anyone outside the correctional hierarchy, new rules are proclaimed and enforced. The reasons are to help fucilitate “rehabilitation” and so forth they have no real interest in, nor explain how it would help it. They also ban “pornographic books”™ that’s sort of hidden by their physical depictions of the human anatomy they deem pornographic. They ban materials whose purpose is to “arouse” prisoners, defined of course, by them. They ban books that “arouse” that naughty sexual organ the brain! This is broad-based offensive on prisoner rights. All over the archipeligo, prisoners are losing any connection to ideas and people on the outside, physical necessities and so forth. For example, in Indiana, prisoners have been cut from 10 letters a month, down to two! They’ve signed a % Sbillion contract with Aramark to provide food. They’ve instituted the $.99 ‘meal. Grown men are being givea childlike portions of food and those on AD-Seg are being denied access to commissary, aiso. This is in effect, a slow starvation of these people, a most certain form of torture. ‘To maximize profits, as the punishment industry goes more and more private, basic things like toohpast, sanitary napkins, toilet paper and soap are being severely rationed with inferior products. The goverments of every state are looking to “cut costs” laying off state workers, speeding the others up, forcing givebacks of previously won wages and benefits. They are using the “corporate model” to punish state workers across the board. The federal govemment i doing the same to their workers, o siphon money due them (pensions, etc.) into their war machine to go with the torrenting upwards of the nation’s wealth to the already rich and greedy. Worker’s unions have been weakened, and money is being looted from state worker’s pension funds and by other means to pay for other govemment projects, such as road construction and pork projects. The ‘strongest unions today are the prison guard unions! They have the sweetest contracts and along with prison authorities have enormous influence a5 to how state money is spent. Increasing amounts are spent on prisons — their with increased amounts for policing those on the “outs.” Meanwhile, the prisoners are receiving less food, basic necessities, treatment programs, educational opportunities — and access to literature. Like slave times of yore, the slavers do not want their slaves to be anything but atomized, confused, uneducated and at each other’s throats. during meals, for example, or any number of petty rules and provocations used by guards and writien into prison policy to humiliste, isolate, intimidate
‘and take the “fight” out of a prisoner. This “fight” is also known as “consciousness.” They smear serious political intellectuals as being in a “strategic threat group, L. gang.” They want t0 keep the “gangs” lacking in political consciousness, 5o as not to focus their rage outside themselves or ‘others from their community. 29 So, really this whole “War on Terrorism” is a “War on Truth” here at home. I’s a brutal imperialist offensive in other countries. Since consciousness creates revolutionaries, empowerment, overcomes fear and ignorance and provides for the possibility of a purposeful life - even confined to a cage it becoming enemy #1 to the authorities. However, to ‘maintain the fagade of “Democracy” and “freedom of speech” it must get - ‘around to their objective in disingenuous ways. Like claiming to be - interested in the safety and welfure of prisoners by censoring their publications! Bear in mind, this is a highly and deliberately despairing. tortuous environment — the U.S. prisons. Conjugal visits are forbidden and ‘even regular visits, phone calls and now, letters, are very difficult and getting more difficult. So, they’ve created an excruciating environment and itis pure nazi sadism that claims more restrictions create “rehabilitation” and “ureatment” Clothing is even being ripped off their bodies as flimsy (and often degrading) cheap, thin material is substituted for winter clothing and plastic sandals replace boots or shoes. for fuel and food, etc. see the clamps tightening, too. Mayor Daley is lauded by the Department for Homeland Security for establishing a “Command Post” of surveillance in Chicago. Thousands of cameras watch the citizens ‘and he clamors for thousands more. He wants children in school 12 months ayear. Its all about “going after crime” while his administration i being exposed as comrupt to the core. Speeders caught by camera will just get their tickets in the mail. More cameras mean more arrests means more prisoners ‘where the ultra exploitation of human beings occurs, and the profits are ‘guaranteed by the taxpayers. That’s a fascist loop! 1t’s a system that feeds ; on its own peoplel 1 ‘There’s an increase in arresting and prosecating “eco-terrorists” and herassing their supporters and those who even write about these subjects. ‘These “terrorists” may or may not have resorted to some form of direct action in protest to systemic brutality of life and environmental degradstion for profit. But, the massive crimes of government and capitalism aren’t prosecutable — just the conscious response of some and the desperation of the many is fair game for the cops. ‘When the state murderers orchestrate a society, it is fundamentally false. 10’ lie-based predation where only the victims, supposedly do the crimes. In such a demented “reality” those with insight are highly demonized and censored. The last thing these monsters want t0 allow to happen is to have: their slaves, whether living in a miserable cage or working at a Wal-Mart,
understand why they find themselves in their nightmare situation —and how they can get out of i. This knowledge becomes the highest form of “treason.” The detail, facts and cogent analysis of them are sedition and thus, ulimately, genuine educationis the worse form of “errorism.” — 9 As Ward Churchill says, “Who’s the Terrorist?” Who has a huge building in Washington, D.C. stuffed with “secrets?” Who blacks out the deails in the Freedom of Information Act files? Who censors publications, has police, military, spies and cameras everywhere, runs a vast gulag system ‘worldwide, has tortured and murdered millions of people for decades, created monster stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, eic., ete. and why are they trying to shut up those brave and insightful enough to call them on their crimes? 1 ask you — who is terrorizing who? They will Never Get us Al1! 32~ By: Harold H. Thompson This booklet of short musings and poems can be read in 3 hours, but its diverse messages of social and political conmentiries will reverberate in your head for weeks to come.. Warold has been incarcerated in Tennessee for the past 20 years and the cause of this sentence 15 explored in the opening paragraphs. 45 he says, “A quest for intellectual growth is a continual, ongoing, Tifelong pursuit.” And his altruistic, anarchist analyses are proof that an ever evolving mind can grasp and relay universal truths even though the body/vehicle be in a locked-down environment. His expounding of dialectic rationale brought a tear to these seeker’s eyes, and more motivation to my walk. His thesis that constitutionally guaranteed rights not granted to the incarcerated are the First step to fascist ictates are akin to canary die-offs warning the wage- Slaves toiling underground. He equates censorship of anarchist thought to mind control, systematized. It is the Idea that is feared by those who wield legislated control and I resound, “shame on them!” In one essay he points out how the state thrives on the fear factor of the domestic populace and needs a constant adversary to justify usurpation of rights and trillions in weaponry and subjugations, spent and wasted. we’re supposed to be continuously menaced by Nazis, Japs, Gooks, drugs & Arabs in that chronological order.
In another chapter about Abu Ghralb and Guantanamo Bay torture sites. he, extrapolates why it cones as 2 big surprise, when it’s been happening in U.S. prisons for a Tong time as a desensitized U.s. public just Tooks the 33 other way and is satiated by the cult of consumerism. 1n another of Harold’s wri he deals with what to do 1f subjected to arrest, Bas . remain silent, never ansver any questions, don’t incriminate yourself or others and don’t fall for any orchestrated ploys. Harold ends most writings with the catch phrase that is the title of the booklet - “They Will Never Get s AT1I" 5o mode it be. peace & Evolution Mike of the South Chicao ABC Collective. HEARTCHECK By: Jeff & Rob The contents and titl of this zine emanate from the U.S. Ghoulag- Archipelago. It means to have enough conviction in your heart, content of your being and testosterone in your gonads to take action for your beliefs. Well, do ya punk? ‘As terma oscillates to the hot-house end of the spectrum because of ‘modem culture’s greed (plus apathy,) multiple species are forced to migrate, ‘compensate or just obliterate. This zine i call to action for the millions ‘who profess outrage against this contrived system of exploitations. “The chapters alternate between these two dedicated soldiers and I found Free’s to be more symbiotic toward other modes of protest. Rob’s thesis to other @’s is to put down that ber, pen, stapler, outreach table and light a wick. He rants against “heads full of theories and lines devoid of actions But, de-emphasized is the clout of choice ~ either through lfestyles, purchases or boycots. Diversity of unrest s a given as not all of us reside in the P-N.W. or are under the age of 30. I’ve met many activist grannies aghast at G.OP. atrocities. “The US. state and the wealthy class will never surrender their corrupt power and capital without a fight. Over the last two centuries, the National ‘Guard and army have been used by the government to squash dissent and only the unified masses will be able to stand up to the state. Divided by race, class or ideologies, the long anticipated toppling will falter. Recognizing and sharing our individual skill, teachings, organizing and coordinating a functional model for social transformation are the ways to ‘nurture our mutual dream: a world beyond state-craf, capitalism, exploitations and greed.” Says Jeff. During the last chapters physical fitness and specific tactics for street demonstrations are emphasized and expanded upon. These explain which exercises are useful for increasing your stamina, to the logistics of reconnaissance.

Appearing Before a Grand Jury to Nflwhmlawyvmn\mnpwyuulnhfinwfl jurymm.munwn’whidamem.roadymmhyw. A grand jury witness is legally entitied to get legal advice before answering each and every question. For example, a person can write down the first question as soon as it’s uked, lewemamomnndhlkbhlshwyar, mmgu back into the hearing room and give his response to that question. Then he would listen to the next question, write it dm,mmwukhmm.wmmhm his response. Then he would write down the third question, go talk to his lawyer, and so on... Once you’ve exercised your right to remain silent in response to several questions, and it’s clear that you’re not going to give any further answers, you’ll be excused. However, there’s a hitch. Sometimes, the prosecutor grants immunity to a witness who’s exercising her right to remain silent, to try to force her to testify. It doesn’t matter whether or not you’ve requested innurfity,Thewmeumor]udgemn justimpose immunity on you—and then you’re no longer entitled k:mepvomdmeanAnmdmm(beumlf you’re immune, what you say can’t be used against you). However, there are two kinds of immunity. The good kind is called “transactional immunity” and it means that you can’t be prosecuted for the incident(s) you testify about. The bad kind is “use immunity” and it means that the prosecutor can’t use your own testimony against you—but he can use other ) people’s testimony and evidence against you. So if the prosecutor makes a bunch of people testify, they’ll likely end up providing enough evidence to convict each other. Naturally, grand jury witnesses are almost always given use immunity, not transactional immunity. If you refuse to testify after being granted immunity, you’ll normally be held in contempt and locked up. Some people who’ve chosen not to comply have had to stay in custody until all the grand jury proceedings were ended or the case was over. This can take months or even years. Since their inception, both in England and in the United States, grand juries have been used against political dissidents, the jurors often being hand-picked to ensure indictment. A moder variation on this abuse of power relies on political activists’ reluctance to inform on their comrades. Activists are subpoenaed with the expectation that they will refuse to testify, and thus end up in jail for lengthy periods (thereby immobilizing that activist and deterring others).! 1. INTRODUCTION

Greetings, Thought Bombs lovers! well, maybe
you don’t “love” this zine, but it is free and
after the 15t half I let up and let others have a
say so. Actually, I've become more of an editor,
as so much good material has come my way that I
feel needs to be presented in zine form. Mostly,
conscious prisoners create what I consider the most
important work, but some of you in_the “outs” do
excellent work, too - most particularly, Tom Big
warrior.

I'm nearing the approach to the end of mK
seemingly 'I1fe'|un? wage-slave sentence. By the end
of october, T will qualify for'a modest pension,
after having been a toll booth operator for 32

ears - 4 times the length of grade school! "It's
)een miserable, but especially so_these last three
years, as I've had my workplace closed & forced to
relocate to a busy nightmare of a place. This has
been exacerbated these last several months, as the
road (1-80 west) has been torn up and traffic has
been funneled through a brutal bottleneck where we
vork. So, the work is extremely stressful,
unheaTthy and so forth. _Every day is draifing,
physically and psychologically, so I haven't béen
go\ng ‘the real work I would like to have been
oing.

But, I try like hell every day, anyway.
Luckily, T've finally found a true comrade to
collaborate with, after searching for years. Mike
is down and he has some contributions in this zine.
Thanks, Brother! I needed that!

Good thing too, because the volume of work
Continues to rise as more and more people -
especially prisoners - realize the importance and
usefulness of this work. I also have wonderful
comrades around the country doing serious anarchist
solidarity work in the true spirit of mutual aid,
Voluntary cooperation and direct action humanismi
Right on, Brothers & sisters, wherever you are
seriously active!

South Chicago ABC Zine Distro Mission Statement
This distro project is an anarchist-driven source of free skool education,

We strive to write, collect, edit, publish and distribute the most useful
and empowering information on a wide range of subjects, with a primary
focus on the Amerikan gulags. We believe strongly in solidarity and
mutual aid and work closely with many conscious prisoners who have
important things to say, regardless of their political affiliation. These
materials (zines) are completely @nticopyright and offered frocly to
indigent prisoners and others. We encourage people to reprint anything
offered by us and help spread the serious truth about our locked down
world. Genuine awareness leads to positive action! Each one, teach one!
Baby Boom Betrayal y

The "Baby Boom™ generation is defined as those
people born between 1946 and 1961. Like Van
Morrison said, the troops who survived WWII, came
home "with Tove looks in their eyes." Boy, he
wasn't kidding because the women they married
becane veritable baby-making machines!

~ "I was smack dab_in the middle of a seven
sibling Tomly, ayself, wy sister, m, was born
in 1946 and the last of my brothers, Jim, was born
in 1961. I was born on my sister's 7th birthday,
September 17", 1953. She had the dubious
distinction of having six younger brothers and 7o
sisters!

So, I had a catbird seat for this whole "Baby
Boomer” phenomenon. I got to see what was going on
with my older brothers and sister as well as how
things played out with my ‘uu er brothers and all
their friends. uflstl¥. 1 lived with my own peer
grove, in the heart of this generation, generally

anging out with people no more than 2 years older
or ymmqet} than myself.

one of the first things T remember was a silly
78 rpm record my parents played constantly about
Jack Kennedy running for president in 1960. Tt

went. soneching Tike this: "oops! There goes
another Kennedy! Oops! There goes angther .
Something.. So, vote for Kennedy, vote for_Kennedy.

1 remember my sister listening to a 78 that
sang, "Johnny has an apple on a stick, an apple on
2 stick." My oldest brother is named John.

TV was a new phenomenon. There were only 3 or
4 black and white channels, Sometimes only two or
one. When the programming’ended, an Indian head
appeared with a miserable endless note.

It seemed often that a test” would be
conducted by the “emergency broadcast system.”
This, of course, was a_faint reminder that we were
undef the insané, albeit constant, threat of
possible nuclear genocide, engulfing whole
Continents and hemispheresl This could be
Yriggered by hubris and bombast or some arrogant
politician, the megalomania of some general or
Simply by Some "mistake.” NucClear weapons were
being constructed at a dizzying pace and several
were ~Tost,” "And it just keeps getting worsel

sut what did we know? we got up early,
watched the Indian for while and waited for the
cartoons to cone on - Bugs Bunny, wickey Mouse,
ooy Woodpecker and so forth: e may have had to
wait for "Five Minutes to Live By" - a dreary
Christian message, set to dull music.
. It seemed like every family had at least four
kids - even if they had to adopt a korean kid or
two (seeing as they were orphans because the U.S.
military murdered So many of their parents.) S

T grew up in ‘l"in]g Park, a_long-time Sleepy,
white south suburb of Chicago. It was founded by
the “Tinley Brothers” railroad men fram the 1850's
or something. There was no big expressway to the
city yet (1-57.) It was surrounded by cornfields
and was an entity unto itself, no Wal-Mart yet or
any of that crap. It wasn't all just cars.

e walked and rode our bikes a lot. We had
good~sized yards_in my neighborhood and could play

ootball, baseball, softball, wiffle ball, tennis,
hide-andgo-seek, Cowboys and Indians or “Army" or

“war." we looked all around for all kinds of
creatures and kept many pets. If we wanted to play
Teague (hard ball) we went to the church grounds a
couple houses over. we'd swing on trees and build
forts and fool around all kinds of ways, usually
outdoors - big snowball fights, tomato Fights, etc.
we liked to throw stuff at each other. we played
board games, too, Tike Monopoly or cards. some of
the Monopoly games lasted for days and were pla
in the front yards of houses. We'd play pinochie
forever and create whole leagues of international
baseball teams and have them play seasons with
cards and dice. We'd stats, just like in the
sports section. But we also sat in front of the
boob tube as much as we could get away with.

We'd watch the Honeymooner 's and Sky King,
hoping to be too slow to have to go to church.

The girls liked to play "house" and "school”
and would pretend to be Moms or teachers and we'd
go along with it - at least I did! we'd do this in

their parent's basements. I at:tua“¥ got on well
with girls, until puberty hit and I freaked out.
we'd go over to the neighbor's house to watch
garbage like 8onanza in the man's den. I hated the
show, but it was in color, so we watched it.

I remember the first'time I saw color T.v. It
felt Tike thase Japanese parents who recently got.
Zapped by Pokemon, | It was ‘Rocky and Wis Friends
- Rocky & Bullwinkle. we all sat reverently around
the set at our minister's house, next door to the
Methodist Church. They had three sons, three of

our and we iiked to ditch church and have fun
together. Another early on color T.V. show was a
3 se action cartoon we watched at a close

neighbor's house, with the two adopted Korean kids.
ma,}":\u‘m ons of their own. " 7 0 "

e played with squirt guns, water balloons an
5.5, Gund and toy Guns with caps and chincy
projectiles. We got a lot of cheap stuff - "made
in Japan.” In those days, “made in Japan" meant 6
shoddy stuff. Of course, they were still
Tecovering after we unieashed nuciear war on them,
slaughtered tons of them otherwise and were helped
as genocidal accomplices, by the insane government
of Japan, who also made Sure many people were
butchered throughout Asia and sacrificed many of
their own people doing it. Economic imperialism is
a tsunami of blood! c:’ginhjst "competition”
called "freedom.” cCosmic crime unpunished!

Anyway, I remember the little T.v. in the
Classroom when the astronauts Tike Gus Grissom,
John Glenn and Alan Sheppard shot into the
stratosphere, trying to recoup the propaganda the
Russians got for being First. After Sputnik, it
came to us as a flying saucer sl candy with
tiny candy beads inside. I t it was cool the
way they put a monkey in space and then a woman!
Kids would have transistor radios glued to their
ears listening to the world Series, which was still
played in the afternoon, until corporate dollars
totally took over.

Penny candy was huge deal to us and was what
we spent our allowance on. There was a place near
our grade school called Rudy's. It was run by two
‘twins - one was_real mice and the other guy was
always crabby, impatiently trying to hurry us up
with our petty selections. McDonald's was just
starting out as a restayrant far away in the
western suburbs. We had “Dairy Palace” and they
had $.15 hamburgers, tool

I_remember Kennedy, always smiling and Jackie
with a1l her (rel\dmflht:{:nfl how everyone was so
worried about something (3 Bobby were toying
vdfgh I’Jtetggl of u:}dmshfn imr'l&'}fle_nuc}elr war
after getting spanked at the Bay of Pigs..

_And there were mainst “rock” songs by
Leslie Gore and the like. My brother got excited
when new Beach Boys songs came out, hu¥°1 thought
it vflsrgnda si1ly what they were saying about cars
and surfing and girls. But, things didn't really
start to h: until Kennedy got his brains blown
into his wife's lap, down in pallas on November 22,
1963. That was like a hit of social windowpane!

Everyone was beside themselves with grief and
that picture_of John-John saluting his dead dad's
casket was eloquently etched in our minds. They

had a crisp flag-draped casket cer as
patriotism has aTways been pre-cminently hammered
into Americans at every turn. John-lohn would grow
into a tabloid hunk and manage to pre-maturely end
his own life, too, along with his wife and sister-
in-law. He thought he could fly blind one mighe.

we had the red for president, 7
now! Wwhat would happen next?.

tuckily, the Beatles exploded and set us all
on a Tife-Tong thrill ride. They pushed all the
crappy white U.S. bands aside and took off Tike a
cultural bottle rocket. Every week it seemed a new
awesome Beatles single would shoot straight to the

guys wanted in, so_they Beatle wigs and
tried to mimic their hipness, with limited success.

As they developed and ditched their suits and
grew more hair, good U.S. bands burst on the scene.
The Grateful Jefferson Airplane, Frank Zappa
and' the Mothers of Invention, etc. put out music
for the counterculture. People hit the streets,
too! Lots of papers were hawked and it seemed 1ike
we were on the verge of something important all the
time. Revolutigns were occurring around the world,
Tike'a string of firecrackers.

The Black music_ - where all non-native culture
sprang from - was still well-hidden, just like the
Black people themselves. You'd hear Some R & B out
of Detroit or Nat 'King Cole or Satchmo or
something, but the "Boomers” followed_the white
bands. Some were integrated though, like the
excelient Butterfield Blues Band from good old
chi . England pumped out a lot of good bands
t00, Tike the Stomes, Animals, Cream, etc. So, we
had’a plethora of new and occasionally innovative
bands to serve as the soundtrack of our lives
coming up. But the rebelliousness of the music
didn't translate into actual action. Later, guys
Tike Bob Marley and the Clash put meat on the
1yrics and sang about politics in a real way.

Dylan wrote songs with strong stuff, but he mumbled

There were actual unions who sometimes went on
meaningful strikes, always sold-out by their
Teadership. Boycotts sometimes were effective and
reporters got to occasionally actually report on
events, or at least provide a glimpse. We'd see
Stacks'of “Vietcong" bodies and other horrible
cal caused by the U.S. Nowadays, the reporters
are ({mbedded) 1ike bedbugs, and are intellectually
and visually muzzled. It's all about the
government’s line "posing” as the truth. There was
a sort of "underground radio” on FM stations,
Sometimes. Now this is called "pirate Radio

~"""and of course, there was the inescapable
Vietnan war. Everyone knew of guys from their
neighborhood who went. Either they got drafted or
they enlisted. Sometimes they came dead,
wounded or ruined (insane.) They brought drugs
home, too - heroin, but most especially dynamite
pot! I still think the government is so determined
to keep pot criminalized, not just because it fuels
their prison profiteering, but because of how
potheads turned on and turned off to their hideous
war. For, not believing government proj s
unforgivable and pot disconnected people from it.

‘The cops were Barney Fife types or macho dudes

For black folks who fought, it was a different
matter. The cops actually sent out assassination
Squads ‘after_some of them and many were sucked intc
the black hole of prison. Their comunities
remained destitute and targeted and daily strife
was, is and always has been excruciating, compared
to Suburban white folk's lives. There are two
separate sets of realities. For le, when the
National Guard killed those (white) kids'at Kent
State, everyone was aghast. when pigs sprayed the
dorm with gunfire down at Ja £ oAs State,
killing two (black) students, it was hardly
noticedl The Voting Rights Act was a_big nothing!

Back to me, I always hated school. T was
sickened by the’stupid racists and giri beaters an
nasty bastards who picked on Jews, als or
anybody for anything. The teachers were horrible,
o0l It was so stifiing and boring all the timel

I remember in 8™ grade, it was 1966. I'd
been to the Martin Luther King, Jr. march through
Cicero during the susmer. There I picked up the
racist comic book, White Man. our English teacher
who was also the French teacher told us to write a
article about somebody famous. I did mine on
Martin Luther King. She flunked me because he was
a "communist nigger!” such a lovely “educator!"

Another time I did a long paper on uncle Tom'.
cabjn. I got a "C" because the teacher said I
stole it from my brother, who she claimed did
same thing two years ago. His was on Huckleberry
Finn, but she didn't undérstand the difference. I
guess it sounds Etty of me, but that was their
mindset - keep things on a simple plane and more

ing, do t you're told without being a
bother. Inteiligence is a nuisance we don't want!

In 7% grade, we had this volatile science
teacher, naned NF. Martinez, one day a softball
came crashing through the ciass, through a second
floor window. Jerry Schmidt had really connected
on_that homer| “The next day, I saw Martinez
assault Jerry on the foul part of the field. His
crime? He was eating Oke Doke cheese popcorn!
Another time he threw a kid from the top of the
bleachers to the wooden floor on the gym floor,
during intranurals - about 7 rows. This kid's
crime was eating Junior Mints. Martinez's

nishment for being an abusive bastard, a child-
eating sadist, was to be made Principal! Almost

who went to college, slowly conformed and fell into
some kind of "career” mold, pretty much abandoni
real alternatives to this insane society. Kids
didn't go to school, stayed around town, got wage-
slave jobs and sort of subsisted sical 1 and
spiritually. They'd have grubby kids. A lot of
people became alcoholics, junkies and so forth.
Some went to prison or died, but_ few made a real
commitment to either a counterculture lifestyle or
challenging any system. Maybe they didn't go to

church as much as their Moms, but usually “came
around” after a while. wWhy believe such nonsense?

For a while, there was a feeling of our
generation, when we were in our teens mostly, and
fwenties to a lesser degree. We'd go to festivals
where there were 200,000 people, listening to bands
for a couple days. Those seemed important in a
way. There were dlways problems wich cops - busts
and beatings of certain people, and there was a
Sort of comraderie in court, where everybody seemed

beat. But, as an evolving "generation” it wasn't
haopm‘h%. le just did what a company wanted
them to do, may ile drinking or getting high on
the side - that was the big "protest.”

After Vietnam gu‘ieud down (end of the draft
in '73) people didn’t care what was happening in
Mozambique or Iran or Guatemala or am re else,
really. They didn't even care about what was
happening in their own community. They just wanted

to be lett alone, go out to a stupid disco or other
bar and get wasted. Others became more and more
conservative, as their parents were, and were |3
wolded into the miserable "Moral Majority"
rightwing evangelical christian flocks of today,
who are driving this "born again” crusade against
blacks and Arabs, women and others who don't

It's quite simple. Like Rashid explain, viokenc (terror) or its threat. ix
‘used to control people. People don't want to make waves and have the police
all over them. They see the countless captives of government in countless
‘prisons, all over the warld. Rather, thay know of them, as they are kept
protiy much from their view in rural areas and eve in secrot locations. Even
‘writing to them or visiting them is a daunting, intimidating, often
humiliating and painfl, threatening experience. See, thess are facts, but
just the mention of them, raises the hackles of thooe responsible for keeping
1id on thought — enpecially to and from the gulags.

So, it's protiy bleak — anco you remove the escapist filters from your eyes
‘and look reality square in tho face. But the accoptance o the truth and the
process of becaming empowared by it and overcoming your fear of the vague
throat of retaliation for 5o longor belisving in the Big Li, is the key to
‘walocking your creative and humanistic potontial. 1’ thrilling to think for
‘yourself, forover off the rotish, ignorant, uncaring, self-centered track laid out
for you. Your mind will do you right because it doesn't forvet and wil build
‘upan what is genuinely loarned. Your example of veracity and courage will
bo much admirod, as it is groatly noeded by 00 many others being so
nesrhelagieally munishad bv this vile rezime. Its a whole new real life!

Look at what the poople in South America are undergoing! Bold, now 2
politics are overcoming evil, U.S. - dictated death squad, IMF, militarized
governmonts, in country after country. What is the U.S. governmant going to
do? Train killers, assaseinate people, make econamies “screem” arm and

that “communiata” or “terroriats” or “narco-tarratists” aro menacing these

“Suppart our troope” should not mean support fir the evil government who
has deceived them with promises of education, caly to thrust them in borrible
and dangerous situations for an imperial agenda. The German citizens
supported their troops t00, in WWIL, but that dosen't mean what those troope

The Business of Government is the Macro Management of Crime

22

Ever get disgusted by the endless parade of corrupt, greedy and
perverted politicians, who make the news and go through the wrist-slap
line of “justice” How about the offal, fat swine still in power,
formulating racist laws, voting themselves raises and gang-pressing our
poor sons & daughters into fighting their Halliburton wars, they so
gutlesaly avoided in their youth? Maybe you're more nauseated by the
ultra maral depravity of the top CEO's, as their mega-billion dollar
scandals erupt onto the surface and their companies go under,
destroying tens of thousands of workers' life savings, while they've
stolen tens of millions for themeelvea!

Yeah, its sickening alright! All the lying, stealing and murdering -
of marality. 1 hate seeing multi-billionaires, like Oprah Winfrey or Bill
Gatea got gushed over for their “philanthropy.” They “give” money or a
book or a car away, with nice rich-people tax write-offe and we're
supposed to be 8o impressed by their largesse. Ugh! What fuckin'
monsters! Lot fete these absente sweatahop overlords!

So, I thought it a good time to set a few basic, unquestioned
assumptions on their lie-based heads. First, this country is not now,
nor was it ever about “freedom” or “democracy.” The Constitution was
written by the richest white men in the country (many of them "owned"
huge plantationa run by slavea,) The land they claimed was stolen from
other people alroady living there, who they tormented and murdered.
‘These disadvantaged people (Native Americans) were then made to
anyway. It did not and indeed, could not “evolve" into something eloe!

‘The Constitution codified human slavery and the “rule of law.”
‘These laws were made to insure that the stolen land, stolen wealth and
stolen lives, remained in the hands of those who stole them! Even
white women were treated like dirt, as were white European men — if
they were poor (indentured servants) or not English enough!

‘Those who couldn't atand this tyranny parading as liberty, fled to
Canada, went ever westward, joined the Maroons in the swamps,
became Indians themselves, were imprisoned, enalaved or tried to find
place of their own somewhere outside the reach of the “law” &/or the
predatory business magnates, who ran the horrible plantations and
factories. Where do we go now that the whole country's locked down?

Does any of this sound like “freedom” or “human rights” or “liberty”"
Of course it doeen't, because it's the opposite — tyranny, exploitation
and alavery - bo it wage, sexual, chattel, prison or contract. Rarely,
‘was there even a viable third party to challenge the two rubber-atamp
partics. Eugene Debs ran a significant 3 party presidential campaign
~ from prison! Whenever workers got any significant organizing done,
thew were gunned dnwn and their leaders ware framed wn and hune
Now, who in this whole wide world would want a system like that for
their own country - if they weren't forced to “nation-build” at the point
of a gun? That's right, nobody! Bocause, it's a horrible aystom that
degrades everything about a society — social relations, the equitable
dintribution of gooda and services, the natural ecology, sexual relations,
“race” relations and most insidiously, the ability of citizens to think
cogently and guide their lives in a free, cooperative and existentially
meaningful manner. To do so means to be in eternal revolt! 23

For, government ia the pinnacle of criminality. It is organized crime
refined over decaden upon decadea of laws, wars, policing, massive
yearly extortion (taxes) and meticulous catering to the wage-slave
economic system of capitalism, known as “extréme capitalism” here in
the U.S. Thia scamless, exponential level of all-encompassing
criminality can only be dreamed of by the Mafia and all the two-bit
gangsters, who can merely mimic the hubris and bombast of the suit
and tie warlorda of politics and industry, with their small time dope
deals and contract murders. Government manipulates whole industries
of drugs (heroin, cocaine, etc.) They kill whole cities of people —
sometimes at one crack! They bleed and make suffer whole countries,
whole sub-continents — even whole continents — like Africa. Now that is
what I call serious, world-class, macro criminality!

The U.S. government even has a nuclear gun to the head of every
man, woman and child on Earth and is even looking to load outer space
up with the destructive energy they've commandeered — in case any
creatures pop in from other parta of the universe, I suppoce. They have
exclusive stockpiles of the moet dangerous and deadly materials known
to man, such as plutonium, dioxin, anthrax, nerve gas, sarin, biological
and chemical weapons, napalm, phosphorus fuel-air “daisy cutter”
bomba, etc., etc. Like Madelaine Albright said about the blow job / Serb
‘War — “What good are weapona if you can't use them?"

Six thousand children die from atarvation every single day/
Hundreds of millions are on death'a door. Thoee that run the show are
‘millionaires and billionaires who thirst for more money, power and
adulation. Wow! That's cosmically serious crime, folka!

The monster policy-makers know it's insanely criminal, but they
can't stop themaelven. They're drunk with their power and drip with
blood lust. That's why more and more state documents are classified as
state secreta. They run secret prisons. They run an international gulag
system. They tell reporters and editors what to say and print — even
overseas! They harass people trying to tell the truth and label genuine
freedom fighters “terrorists” and “anarchists.” They lie like hell!

Orwell, Kafka and many others saw all of this coming. 1984 even
had it pegged as far as the idiot box is concerned. These mesmerizing
acreens are truly everywhere — from giant big ecreens, o itty-bitty tiny
ones. You can hardly even go to a restaurant anymore without that

obnoxious junk droning on. People have them on while they are 2]
driving, eating - even aleeping! People go to bars that have literally
dozens of scroens flashing images. Mostly, it escapint drivel, like
sporta or sex or pig shows. There are lots of lawyer, judge — even prison
‘shows, which are now insanely popular. 1t's all contrived nonsense
‘meant to anaesthetize the brain or feed the mush-headed citizenry,
gargantuan political lies. It's the culture of simulated social life.

1t disconnects people from reality. Al the bundreds of thousands of
with all the details of gruesome torture, make the real-life murder
committed by government, inconsequential. Hunks, like Arnold
Swartsenegger and Sylvester Stallone and Keifer Sutherland prepare
the cultural bed for the mass murderers of government the Cheney's
and Rumafeld's, Dick Cheney is John Wayne Gacy!

See, its ok to murder people — even if you're a rogue agent, as long
a8 you doit for the government. But, it not ok if you're a young black
man. That's the most terrible thing possible and leads off every news
show. How, utterly insane! Yeah, it terrible when somebody geta
raped and murdered, but it's exponentially more terrible every single
day of massive government murder coupled with paychological slavery.

I¢s only the “losers” that pay fur their crimes. Had Hitler's
Germany won WWIL, they probably would have conducted solemn trialn
with American, British and Russian generals and politicians in the
dock for the mass murder in Dresden, Berlin and elsewhere. Both sides
visited coloasal, otherworldly mass murder to civilians on an almost.
daily basis, for many years. These are governmenta at work!l! WWII in
fondly referred to as “The Good War!" What is s0 good about endless
bloodshed and suffering? After the main killing was over, the U.S.
didn't akip a beat, making sure the Brits, France, etc. recovered their
coloniea in Africa, Southeast Asia and elsewhere. They put the military
clampdown back in South America, Greece, Korea — wherever!

They even declared war at home, blacklisting people, nuking citizens
and reising the ultimate dread of total nuclear annihilation to a very
real possibility (MAD — mutually assured destruction.) Before killing
1,000,000 Koreana from 1960-1953, they murdered 100,000 from the
end of WWII to 1950! They knew all about the Holocaust — while it was
happening - and did nothing about it! They set up brutal dictators
from Indonesia to the Philippines, to Iran to Chile. No level of
depravity wes too horrible for the U.S. forces — Vietnam, Guatemals, El
Salvador ~ you name it! Think of the clinical “supermax” hellholes!

Yet, we're aupposed to be aghast when a little kid brings a toe nail
clipper to school! Theyll have us believe that the “Civil Rights
Movement” in the sixties took away all the final vestiges of
discrimination. After all, a few words were changed in a few law books!

Meanwhile, a huge percentage of young black men are living in the
mot horrible, vile, dinease-riddled and dangerous paychological torture
chambers ~ prison. Their communities are worse off than ever, with
cameras everywhere instead of jobs, with police rounding people up,
constantly. Despair and hopeleasness is trumpeted as “equality.”
Making Martin Luther King, Jrs birthday a national holiday does
nothing to create genuine community organizations and real
empowerment for oppreased people. Black Histary Month, the 25
“celebration of Kwanzaa” and a handful of talented black athletes
making millions doesn't do a damned thing to stop the torrent of young
black men and women into the gulags of Amerika. It's all a big fraud!
Religion - ah, to find a place of solace! What does it really do? Yes,
some churches do serious prisoner support outreach. They'll organize
bussea for family membera and complain that phone calls are a rip-off
or that conditions at such-and-such a dungeon are horrible, but it h
no effect on government. They continue to parade folks in front of be-
robed judges, who go through the formality of convicting poor people, as
if on an assembly line! Or, enticed by promises of money for education,
kuds get sucked into the military, only to find themselves being forced to
do deapicable things to poor people in other (nowadaye, Arab) countries.
Al our efforts to work and provide for our families, are hampered
enormously because the government extorts a huge chunk of it in taxes.
And what do they use this money for? s it to make sure that all of our
children are properly clothed, fed, housed and truthfully educated?
Hell, no! It to make the lives of people here and abroad infinitely
mare miserable - either by occupying their country and bombing them,
torturing them and so forth or incarcorating us, pushing us into the
military and forcing us to be their cheerleadera for their criminal deeds.
Government is very bad and all of society suffers terribly by the
hideous process of continuously trying to ignore this monster in our
midst, and indeed, being forced into catering to it. Stalinism w.
probably the most clearly defined example of this type of society
through government-caused fear. But, America takea the cake as far as
sheer ignorance goes. When constant torture and murder are not even
&iven a second thought, how in hell are you to expect a sane society to
function??? Trying o appeal to their “humanity” ia the height of folly,
because they have no humanity! Citizens must ditch government lies
and wop allowing them to commit such terrible crimes. If we don't rise
up and put a stop to it, their crimes will overwhelm us, too along with
our children and everything else we hold dear. It'a up to us to o or die.

Censorship & Deprivation of Prisoners is a War on Citizens, TZo!

‘Vemon Maulsby brings up some good points and an alarm bell should be
‘going offin everybody’s heads. He's a lfer at SCI-Graterford, PA. There
new policy denying sexually desperate inmates what they define as
“ponography” is a strategy to censor words they don't like and through a
‘bone to the warped religious right

Personally, the issue about the magazines does no really concern me, but
the way the directive s set to censor the writien word as well, is what has
Jforced me into action to try to fight this serious menace. This DOC, once it
'has a foothold on censoring written content in books, will never stop, wntil
every book possibly of serious value o the inmate, in the ongoing struggle to
improve conditions here, has been winnowed out. The confiscation of adult
reading material is a “borus” which wil be welcomed by the Religious
Right both within and outside of this prison.

By using vague, fascist-think language they add further restrictions on
‘prisoners. Here's what this Bulletin reads:

In order to assist with rehabilitation and treatment objectives, reduce
sexual harassment and prevent a hostile work environment, inmates wil not
be permitted to receive or possess pornography, as defined below. As of the
effective date of this bulletin, inmates will no longer be permitted 1o obtaina
new or renew an existing subscription 1o pornographic magazines or to

DC-ADM 803, “Inmate Mail and Incoming Publications,” Section
VLE.3b.
Obscenity/Pornography (7) is being revised, and the following is
being added:
(7) where the material depicts bestiality, masturbation,
sadomasochistic behavior, or bondage;
New language is being added as Section VLF.3.c. “Pornography
Issues.”
b. Pornography Issues
The following categories of material are considered
“pornographic.”
(1) materials which the purpose is sexual arousal or
gratification; or
(2) the material contains nudity which means showing the
human male or female genitals, pubic area or buttocks with less
than a fully opaque covering, or showing the female breast with
less than a fully opaque covering of any portion thereof below the
top of the nipple (exposure through “see through” materials is
‘considered nudity for purposes of this definition. 27

OK. Let's look at this mare closely. Without any kind of input from
‘anyone outside the correctional hierarchy, new rules are proclaimed and
enforced. The reasons are to help fucilitate “rehabilitation” and so forth they
have no real interest in, nor explain how it would help it. They also ban
“pornographic books”™ that's sort of hidden by their physical depictions of
the human anatomy they deem pornographic. They ban materials whose
purpose is to “arouse” prisoners, defined of course, by them. They ban
books that “arouse” that naughty sexual organ the brain!

This is broad-based offensive on prisoner rights. All over the
archipeligo, prisoners are losing any connection to ideas and people on the
outside, physical necessities and so forth. For example, in Indiana, prisoners
have been cut from 10 letters a month, down to two! They've signed a %
Sbillion contract with Aramark to provide food. They've instituted the $.99
‘meal. Grown men are being givea childlike portions of food and those on
AD-Seg are being denied access to commissary, aiso. This is in effect, a
slow starvation of these people, a most certain form of torture.

‘To maximize profits, as the punishment industry goes more and more
private, basic things like toohpast, sanitary napkins, toilet paper and soap
are being severely rationed with inferior products. The goverments of
every state are looking to “cut costs” laying off state workers, speeding the
others up, forcing givebacks of previously won wages and benefits. They
are using the “corporate model” to punish state workers across the board.
The federal govemment i doing the same to their workers, o siphon money
due them (pensions, etc.) into their war machine to go with the torrenting
upwards of the nation’s wealth to the already rich and greedy.

Worker's unions have been weakened, and money is being looted from
state worker's pension funds and by other means to pay for other
govemment projects, such as road construction and pork projects. The
‘strongest unions today are the prison guard unions! They have the sweetest
contracts and along with prison authorities have enormous influence a5 to
how state money is spent. Increasing amounts are spent on prisons — their
with increased amounts for policing those on the “outs.” Meanwhile, the
prisoners are receiving less food, basic necessities, treatment programs,
educational opportunities — and access to literature.

Like slave times of yore, the slavers do not want their slaves to be
anything but atomized, confused, uneducated and at each other’s throats.
during meals, for example, or any number of petty rules and provocations
used by guards and writien into prison policy to humiliste, isolate, intimidate
‘and take the “fight” out of a prisoner. This “fight” is also known as
“consciousness.” They smear serious political intellectuals as being in a
“strategic threat group, L. gang.” They want t0 keep the “gangs” lacking in
political consciousness, 5o as not to focus their rage outside themselves or
‘others from their community. 29

So, really this whole “War on Terrorism” is a “War on Truth” here at
home. I's a brutal imperialist offensive in other countries. Since
consciousness creates revolutionaries, empowerment, overcomes fear and
ignorance and provides for the possibility of a purposeful life - even
confined to a cage it becoming enemy #1 to the authorities. However, to
‘maintain the fagade of “Democracy” and “freedom of speech” it must get -
‘around to their objective in disingenuous ways. Like claiming to be -
interested in the safety and welfure of prisoners by censoring their
publications! Bear in mind, this is a highly and deliberately despairing.
tortuous environment — the U.S. prisons. Conjugal visits are forbidden and
‘even regular visits, phone calls and now, letters, are very difficult and
getting more difficult. So, they've created an excruciating environment and
itis pure nazi sadism that claims more restrictions create “rehabilitation” and
“ureatment”

Clothing is even being ripped off their bodies as flimsy (and often
degrading) cheap, thin material is substituted for winter clothing and plastic
sandals replace boots or shoes.
for fuel and food, etc. see the clamps tightening, too. Mayor Daley is lauded
by the Department for Homeland Security for establishing a “Command
Post” of surveillance in Chicago. Thousands of cameras watch the citizens
‘and he clamors for thousands more. He wants children in school 12 months
ayear. Its all about “going after crime” while his administration i being
exposed as comrupt to the core. Speeders caught by camera will just get their
tickets in the mail. More cameras mean more arrests means more prisoners
‘where the ultra exploitation of human beings occurs, and the profits are
‘guaranteed by the taxpayers. That's a fascist loop! 1t's a system that feeds ;
on its own peoplel 1

‘There's an increase in arresting and prosecating “eco-terrorists” and

herassing their supporters and those who even write about these subjects.
‘These “terrorists” may or may not have resorted to some form of direct
action in protest to systemic brutality of life and environmental degradstion
for profit. But, the massive crimes of government and capitalism aren't
prosecutable — just the conscious response of some and the desperation of
the many is fair game for the cops.

‘When the state murderers orchestrate a society, it is fundamentally false.
10’ lie-based predation where only the victims, supposedly do the crimes. In
such a demented “reality” those with insight are highly demonized and
censored. The last thing these monsters want t0 allow to happen is to have:
their slaves, whether living in a miserable cage or working at a Wal-Mart,

understand why they find themselves in their nightmare situation —and how
they can get out of i. This knowledge becomes the highest form of
“treason.” The detail, facts and cogent analysis of them are sedition and
thus, ulimately, genuine educationis the worse form of “errorism.” — 9

As Ward Churchill says, “Who's the Terrorist?” Who has a huge
building in Washington, D.C. stuffed with “secrets?” Who blacks out the
deails in the Freedom of Information Act files? Who censors publications,
has police, military, spies and cameras everywhere, runs a vast gulag system
‘worldwide, has tortured and murdered millions of people for decades,
created monster stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, eic.,
ete. and why are they trying to shut up those brave and insightful enough to
call them on their crimes? 1 ask you — who is terrorizing who?

They will Never Get us Al1! 32~
By: Harold H. Thompson

This booklet of short musings and poems can be read in
3 hours, but its diverse messages of social and political
conmentiries will reverberate in your head for weeks to
come..

Warold has been incarcerated in Tennessee for the past
20 years and the cause of this sentence 15 explored in the
opening paragraphs.

45 he says, “A quest for intellectual growth is a
continual, ongoing, Tifelong pursuit.” And his altruistic,
anarchist analyses are proof that an ever evolving mind can
grasp and relay universal truths even though the
body/vehicle be in a locked-down environment. His
expounding of dialectic rationale brought a tear to these
seeker’s eyes, and more motivation to my walk.

His thesis that constitutionally guaranteed rights not
granted to the incarcerated are the First step to fascist

ictates are akin to canary die-offs warning the wage-
Slaves toiling underground. He equates censorship of
anarchist thought to mind control, systematized. It is the
Idea that is feared by those who wield legislated control
and I resound, “shame on them!”

In one essay he points out how the state thrives on
the fear factor of the domestic populace and needs a
constant adversary to justify usurpation of rights and
trillions in weaponry and subjugations, spent and wasted.
we’re supposed to be continuously menaced by Nazis, Japs,

Appearing Before a Grand Jury to

Nflwhmlawyvmn\mnpwyuulnhfinwfl
jurymm.munwn'whidamem.roadymmhyw.
A grand jury witness is legally entitied to get legal advice
before answering each and every question. For example, a
person can write down the first question as soon as it's
uked,lewemamomnndhlkbhlshwyar,mmgu
back into the hearing room and give his response to that
question. Then he would listen to the next question, write it
dm,mmwukhmm.wmmhm
his response. Then he would write down the third question,
go talk to his lawyer, and so on...

Onoeyw'rainfvvmdagrandjury.you can testify or you can
“take the Fifth" (exercise your right to remain silent).

If you decide to testify, don't expect to get away with evading
any of the questions or saying, *I can't remember” over and

few times. Once you've exercised your right to remain silent
in response to several questions, and it's clear that you're not
going to give any further answers, you'll be excused.
However, there's a hitch. Sometimes, the prosecutor grants
immunity to a witness who's exercising her right to remain
silent, to try to force her to testify. It doesn’t matter whether or
not you've requested innurfity,Thewmeumor]udgemn
justimpose immunity on you—and then you're no longer
entitled k:mepvomdmeanAnmdmm(beumlf
you're immune, what you say can't be used against you).

However, there are two kinds of immunity. The good kind is
called “transactional immunity” and it means that you can't be
prosecuted for the incident(s) you testify about. The bad kind
is “use immunity” and it means that the prosecutor can’t use
your own testimony against you—but he can use other )
people’s testimony and evidence against you. So if the
prosecutor makes a bunch of people testify, they'll likely end
up providing enough evidence to convict each other.
Naturally, grand jury witnesses are almost always given use
immunity, not transactional immunity.

If you refuse to testify after being granted immunity, you'll
normally be held in contempt and locked up. Some people
who've chosen not to comply have had to stay in custody
until all the grand jury proceedings were ended or the case
was over. This can take months or even years.

Since their inception, both in England and in the United
States, grand juries have been used against political
dissidents, the jurors often being hand-picked to ensure
indictment. A moder variation on this abuse of power relies
on political activists' reluctance to inform on their comrades.
Activists are subpoenaed with the expectation that they will
refuse to testify, and thus end up in jail for lengthy periods
(thereby immobilizing that activist and deterring others).!

1. For a comprehensive, yet stiring, article on the history and corruption
of grand juries, see Michael Deutsch, The Improper Use of the Federal
Grand Jury: An Instrument for the Internment of Political Activists,

Our chidren are being abused in reformatories across Amerkkka, Our

Don'tyou know that every fime you pay your faxes you condone these

Spread the word. The moverment is herel The siruggle is coming and we
must fight, close ranks and stand up. Without a fight. no-wer can be won.

Words can accomplish so much. There comes a fime when payments

I there is no skuggle, there is no progress. Those who profess fo favor
freedom and yet depreciate agitafion. are men who want crops without
plowing the ground. They want roin without thunder and lightning. They
want fhe ocean without the awfulroar of s many waters. This struggie may
‘be a moral one or it may be a physical one and it may be both moral and
physical. but it must be a siuggle. Power concedes nothing without o
demand. If never did and it never wi... Man may not get ol they pay for in

Therefore, we have no options. We stand up and fight or we can be

ON AFRO-AMERICAN;

Lessons for today from History—in the words of Maicoim X,
one of the 20th century's outstanding revolutionary leaders.

WNEN 'WE SEND OUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL they
leam nothing about us other than that we used fo be
cofton pickers. Why, your grandfather was Nat Tumer;
your grandfather was Toussaint L'Ouverture; your
grandfather was Hannibal. It was your grandfather’s
hands who forged civilization and it was your
grandmother's hands who rocked the cradile of
civilization. But the textbooks fell our children nothing.
